since I installed gcam version 9.6 on my pixel 9 Pro XL I'm facing some weird issues with the camera I'm not talking about the older pixel models but I'm talking about this one specifically so I created this video to give Google a heads up about what's going on hoping that they will work on these issues very soon because honestly I cannot take this quality from a phone known for being one of the best in taking photos and videos the first issue I came across is the tremendous amount of noise in night photos especially with the T photo in this example I was trying to take a photo of bour Khalifa at night in the viewfinder everything looks great but after the processing here is what I got a noisy and oversharpened image which is nowh near the pixel camera quality I got used to I tried to validate my observation and took another Zoom chot using the 8 Pro and the 9 Pro XL both at the same 12 megap resolution with night sight activat look at the oversharpened mess of the 9 Pro XL the 8 Pro did a much better job so I'm not sure what's going on here I even tried to uninstall updates under the gcam info page and updated the app again but the issue still persists after seeing this I decided to compare the 9 Pro XL with the older pixel models starting from the 6 Pro by taking a moon shot keep in mind that all phones are running Android 15 and gcam version 9.6 you will notice here that the Moon looks the the best in the 9 Pro XL view finder which made me confident that it will take the best looking image while the 8 Pro looks the worst but after processing they switch it places the 9 Pro XL had the worst image it's Overexposed and the blurry with no details around the edges while the 8 Pro produced a telescope like image with a lot of details and Perfect Exposure the 7 Pro had this weird red smudges in the background but it was the second most detailed and lastly the 6 Pro over exposed the moon but still more detailed than the 9 Pro XL and here's another look at the same images after cropping in even more to better see the differences the second problem is also at night all of a sudden the colors started to look washed out and the white balance to be a lot cooler than what it should be this issue is also impacting the 8 Pro this image was taken with the main camera look at the massive difference in colors the 7 Pro and the 6 Pro represent the scene exactly as it looks in real life while the 8 Pro and the 9 Pro XL desaturated the colors Overexposed the image and the wide balance is a lot cooler than expected in addition to the extremely noisy sky with the 9 Pro XL being the worst while the other two phones exposed things perfectly I usually take night photos at the same place and I tried to get a similar shot I captured with version 9.4 on Android 14 to compare the colors with version 9.6 on Android 15 look at the same floor and buildings version 9.6 made the scene look so dull with a noisy sky before moving to the third issue let me remind you about the wallpapers by in-depth thck reviews app here you can find all the wallpapers I use in my videos they are custom made and match your taste I publish 12 new wallpapers every week with a lifetime access for only $2 the Google Play Store download link is in the description and now let's get back to the video the third issue I had is in videos this video was taken with the main camera and for some reason the 9 Pro XL had an extremely shaky and noisy video with washed out colors which is very disappointing with Android 14 and gcam version 9.4 it used to record amazing videos so there is definitely something wrong here issue number four is the inconsistent colors between the 12 and 50 megapix modes let me show you a couple of photos I took in September before the update both look identical despite the difference in resolution which is one of the things I liked about the 9 Pro XL camera but here is what I'm getting now the 50 megapix version is warmer with more accurate colors while the 12 megapixel is cooler with desaturated colors and here's another example showing the same problem issue number five is the indoors photos and videos I took the 16 Pro Max and the 9 Pro XL to GX to take some photos and videos look at how the 9 Pro XL was struggling to pick the right colors and every lens has a different look while the iPhone represented the scene per perfectly with all lenses I just stopped using the pixel at this stage and took all other videos with the 16 Pro Max so these are the issues I came across and I had to say that I'm extremely disappointed with the 9 Pro XL camera performance after the update I'm not sure if gcam 9.6 is the reason or Android 15 or both together please let me know in the comments if you experienced the same issues with your 9 Pro XL or it's just me so I hope to see Google addressing these issues as soon as possible but for now thanks so much for watching and see you in the next video
